Take control of your fears
Refuge - Peace - Healing
There are few things that feel worst than panic. Your chest feels like it is getting squeezed, you sweat all over, and your vision begins to blur. Whether you have just started experiencing panic attacks, or have had a panic disorder for years, you cannot seem to shake these uncomfortable episodes. You long for change and to reduce your overall anxiety. At Oasis Therapy Center, I use cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), the gold-standard in treating panic disorders, to help reduce the frequency and intensity of your panic. Many individuals begin to see changes in a relatively short amount of time, usually within 15 sessions. Your panic will not be around forever. See if we can partner together to banish panic from your life!
What is Panic and Why do we Experience it?
In simple terms, panic is very intense anxiety. It is our body's way of telling us that perceived future danger is too much to handle and must be avoided at all costs. This manifests as a panic attack, or a rush of intense fear that involves strong physical symptoms like heavy breathing, sweating, trembling, and an increased heart rate. These attacks may happen randomly, or may happen during specific situations. Panic disorder involves being afraid of when the next panic attack may occur and includes avoidance of things or places that may trigger another attack. Oftentimes, these panic symptoms occur in the presence of no danger, or when the perception of the danger is greater than what it actually is.
Phobias

Having a phobia means experiencing intense fear and panic from a particular object or situation. Common phobias include the fear of spiders (arachnophobia), fear of snakes (ophidiophobia), fear of heights (acrophobia), or the fear of flying on an airplane (aerophonia). While these fears may not cause you difficulty all the time, some people find that they suddenly have to confront their phobias. For example, a businessman who previously did not have to travel for work now has to fly to attend an important meeting. These can be very stressful experiences for many.
How do you treat Panic and Phobias?

You may feel that you cannot escape from your fears. Every time you have tried to work on your panic, it seems to come back. I am happy to say that panic disorders and phobias can be treated successfully. You do not have to keep on enduring your symptoms and just getting by.
Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is considered to be the gold-standard treatment against panic attacks and phobias. It involves the concept of exposure, or slowly placing yourself into anxious situations to teach yourself how to effectively manage your fears. Overtime, your brain learns to desensitize itself to the stimuli. CBT also involves the teaching of coping skills that can be used when your body becomes dysregulated. This approach has been shown to be very effective in lowering panic levels and reducing overall distress from panic attacks and phobias. Facing your fears may cause you to feel more anxious and might not make sense. but over the long-term, you are likely to start seeing a difference.
